Many people at some time in their lives dream of just packing up and going to live on a Caribbean beach somewhere. Palm trees waving in the warm breeze under a clear blue sky as you lie in your hammock with a contented smile on your face, the crystal clear water lapping gently at your feet. Some do more than dream. Some do it. We did it. You can do it too! In 1999, on an impulse, we bought a piece of land in Belize. In 2005, we came to live here at Steppingstones, a beautiful oceanfront traditional style Caribbean retreat, which we built over a period of two years. Now this idyilic home in beautiful, tranquil southern Belize, can be yours. Steppingstones consists of our house - two bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms, dining room, living room and kitchen, and in a separate building, our two cabana apartments. We also have a staff house and outbuildings. We sit on approximately 3/4 acre of land, with 90ft of beachfront, our nearest neighbours are around 1/4 mile in each direction. Behind us we have cleared for our use two acres of National Land which is laid to grass and fruit trees. The property has a good clean title (many Belizean properties don't have valid clean titles). We are located on the oceanfront about a mile north of Monkey River Village - you get here by water taxi, or of course your own boat (included in the package.). We operate on 24/7 solar power and collect our own sweet rainwater. We have satellite TV (US and Canadian), internet via satellite, and phone service, Blackberries and iPhones work here too. We have all the comforts of civilisation combined with the peace and beauty of a Caribbean hideaway. Our overheads are minimal, virtually no taxes, no electricity bills, no water bills. So our cost of living is very low, but our standard of living is comfortable - for example, we employ a full time live on site handyman. We have snappers living under our dock out front, so the fish could not be fresher, we keep chickens and ducks so we always have fresh eggs and meat, and we grow bananas, mangoes and various vegetables.
